FORT HOOD, Texas — The U.S. Army Medical Test and Evaluation Activity (MTEAC) completed operational testing of the Centrifuge, Veterinary, General Purpose (CVGP) from April 8–9, 2026, at Fort Hood’s urban training facility, supporting efforts to modernize diagnostic capabilities for military veterinary personnel.

Requested by Soldier Health, Prevention, & Logistics (SHPL), the test assessed the CVGP as a potential replacement for the currently fielded veterinary centrifuge. The portable benchtop system is designed to support the diagnosis and treatment of military working dogs (MWDs).

Participants from the 43rd Medical Detachment, Veterinary Service Support (MDVSS) including a Field Veterinary Service Officer, three Animal Care Specialists, and a Biomedical Equipment Specialist, provided mission-focused feedback on the system’s performance in realistic field conditions.

The Biomedical Equipment Specialist executed Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services on all CVGP systems, confirming they were fully mission capable and maintainable.

Two two-person veterinary teams conducted structured scenarios using a “Diesel Dog” canine medical simulator across two lanes: routine preventive health screening and emergency trauma care‑. Teams rotated roles to complete multiple iterations. A subject matter expert also provided hands-on instruction to reinforce skills in Veterinary Treatment Facility setup, MWD trauma care, and CVGP operation.

The participants additionally assessed the centrifuge’s safety features, including a successful demonstration of the emergency lid release.

MTEAC has delivered an operational test report to SHPL. Findings will inform decisions on whether the CVGP advances in the acquisition process and is integrated into MDVSS equipment sets.

Aligned under the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence, MTEAC is the Department of War’s independent operational test and evaluation agency for medical and medical-related materiel and information technology. Learn more at https://medcoe.army.mil/usamteac.
